The Cub’s Father Pretends to Be Poor Everyday Chapter Two.

Chapter 2

══════════════════

The host, the body, the soul.

Xie Yishu remembered the few novels and movies he had read in Gulanxing and hesitated a little: “…… system?”

The voice in his head was choking on a sob: “Yes.”

Xie Yishu greeted it tentatively, “How are you?”

He didn’t know which switch of the system he had triggered with these words, but the system, which called itself 001, couldn’t hold back its emotions and cried out with a loud ” Woah”.

The sound of crying echoed in his mind.

Xie Yishu felt like he was locked in a small room with stereo speakers surrounding him on all sides, cycling through the same audio. It was a bit of a headache.

But more than a headache, Xie Yishu was also relieved.

He had been worried that he would cross over to another time and space again in the next second. Now with an extra system, many of the doubts from the past ought to be given a reasonable explanation.

For example, why he had travelled to another time and space five years ago.

And why he had travelled back an hour ago.

The time shown on the terminal was 6pm, which was the end-of-work peak in District 1.

The street was full of cars, and Xie Yishu walked to a bench on the side of the street and sat down. It looked like he was waiting for someone, but in fact he was waiting for the little one in his head to calm down.

A quarter of an hour later, the crying gradually stopped.

The electronic voice from before rang out again, and was accompanied by a small hiccup: “Hello host, I am trainee system 001. We are meeting for the first time, please take care of me.”

“You must have a lot of questions right now, and 001 will answer them for you. But not necessarily all of them can be answered because, because ……” 001 choked up again as it said, “because 001 also has a lot of questions.”

Xie Yishu asked directly what was most concerning: “How long can I stay here?”

There was an awkward silence. It was a while before 001’s electronic voice rang out.

Its voice was a bit small and seemed a bit mournful: “001 doesn’t know.”

Xie Yishu’s heart sank as he slowly asked his second question, “Five years ago, why did I suddenly cross over to another world?”

001’s voice was even smaller: “001 doesn’t know.”

Xie Yishu: “……”

Xie Yishu: “Then do you know why I suddenly crossed over here?”

“This 001 knows!” The small electronic voice sounded a bit cheerful, like a child who finally got a chance to perform well in front of adults, “It was 001 who brought the host here.”

“The higher-ups have given us a task for the internship system, asking us to each bind a host to act as a cultural propagation ambassador, spreading the culture and civilization of one world to another.”

“The wider the spread, the better the grade.”

“At the end of the one-year period, as long as the overall grade is rated C and above, the system can be upgraded from an internship system to an official system. The host will also be able to fulfil a wish.”

“The mission 001 drew was ‘World 21 → World 79’, which is to bring the civilisation of the Gulanxing here.”

“According to 001’s investigation, you, the host, are an orphan, have little to no attachment in Gulanxing, have taken history in college, and have an unattainable wish in your heart …… are the most suitable candidate to serve as 001’s host this time.”

“So 001 bound you and brought you into this world.”

At this point, 001’s voice trailed off again, “But 001’s investigation doesn’t seem to be very comprehensive ……”

It was only a trainee system, with many omissions in the programming algorithm.

Its start-up is all very slow, and it just missed the time for the host to replace the terminal.

It was not very well rounded.

Xie Yishu didn’t even know what to say.

He did take history at university, but he took the history of this world – the thirty-six districts of Atlantis.

It was also true that there was an unattainable wish in his heart, but just an hour or so ago, he got it.

He returned to his native land, to a familiar world.

Xie Yishu thought about it and suggested, “If you unbind ……”

001 inhaled, a little sad: “Can’t unbind.”

The selection of a host is also a test, once bound, it cannot be unbound before the expiration of the period.

Xie Yishu: “So is there anything I can do to help?”

He was actually quite grateful to 001, if he hadn’t been bound by it, he might never have been able to return.

001 remembered the experience the system class senior had imparted to it, “Host, do you know how to cook Gulanxing cuisine?”

It had to be optimistic.

After all, the host had lived on the Gulanxing planet for five years, so it must have learned a lot of its cuisine. By cooking cuisine straight away and conquering the stomachs of the entire planet, an SSS grade would be handily achieved.

But the host’s words dealt a severe blow to its confidence.

Xie Yishu was stiff: “Do instant noodles count? I can make instant noodles.”

“Host, did you learn martial arts in Gulanxing? We can promote ancient martial arts and combine them with the mecha of this world.”

Ancient martial arts?

Xie Yishu had some difficulty in saying, “Does military boxing count? I’ve helped a few college students from Gulanxing substitute for their military training and learned military boxing.”

……

After some talking, 001 was desperate.

Xie Yishu was silent for a long time before comforting him, “The mission time limit is one year, this is only the first day, so if you can’t think of something that can be promoted for a while, maybe you can think of it in a few days.”

The technology on Gulanxing was a long way behind Atlantis, and even after living there for five years, Xie Yishu still could not get used to the lack of terminals, light brains and bionic services.

His life on Gulanxing was also monotonous. He was twenty years old and looked about the same as the college students on Gulanxing. Without a Gulantian account or papers, he had to make a living by substitute teaching. Electricity, mechanics and applied chemistry …… were covered from morning to night.

The classes he substituted for at Gulanxing could not be extended here.

Those courses are very simple, in Xie Yishu’s memory, this is the content taught in secondary school.

001 also knew that it couldn’t be too hasty and accepted Xie Yishu’s reassurance weakly: “Hmm.”

It’s just that it’ s still a bit desperate.

And it also wanted to cry a little.

Xie Yishu listened to the small sobs in his head, sighed, picked up his backpack and got up to walk towards the shopping street not far away.

It was getting late, he had to buy the light brain.

The more time they spent together, the more Xie Yishu felt that this intern system called 001 had the temperament of a child.

When it encountered frustration, it would cry in a small voice, and when it met something new, it would be quickly distracted.

“Host host host, is this the shopping street of this world?”

“Host host host, did you come here to buy a light brain?”

“Host host host, there is a light brain experience shop right there, why don’t you go there and take a look?”

Xie Yishu turned around seven times with his bag on his back and turned into a less busy alley, explaining to 001: “The light brains in the experience shop are all new, and the balance in my account …… isn’t quite enough.”

The money he had saved from his part-time job in college, was taken by him to buy a silver ring. He had wanted to use that silver ring to propose to Gu Yan on his graduation day ……

Xie Yishu collected his memories and continued, “There’s a second-hand light brain shop in this alley, I bought the lightbrain I used in college there, although the style is old, the quality is also very good. If we’re lucky, that shop should still be open.”

They were lucky, the little shop was indeed still open.

001 watched the host buy a used optical brain for less than a fraction of the price of a new one from the experience shop, and then received a free used communication card, and its admiration for the host flowed like a tidal wave: “Wow!”

It suddenly felt that the program might have targeted Xie Yishu as the most suitable host for it, not just because of those incomplete investigations.

He was able to live in a strange world for five years without outside help. Even if he suddenly came back through again, he would be able to return immediately and arrange his new life in an orderly manner.

Its host was very adaptable and also more composed and reliable than it had predicted.

With its host around, it might actually be able to figure out a way to complete the mission.

It would just take some time.

001’s heart lit up with a glimmer of hope, and it confessed to its host in a small, shy voice: “Host, you’re amazing!”

Xie Yishu: “Mm-hmm.”

001 sensed the host’s fragile response, as well as nervousness.

It was only a trainee system, with no way to directly access the host’s thoughts, and could only make guesses based on the host’s actions.

001 thought about it and asked, “Host, is there someone you want to call?”

Xie Yishu’s finger pressing the numbers gave a beat, and it took a while before he entered the last few digits, “Hmm.”

Call Gu Yan.

He missed Gu Yan’s voice.

For five whole years.

001 is too cute!!

Also, as I’m now translating three novels at once, I’ve changed the goal for the bonus chapter to 5$ instead, but I won’t post a bonus for all three novels at once as I don’t want to stress over not having enough chapters already translated just in case x)
